Straight Curves---Poetry Thursday

This week's prompt was the very mathematical prove it. Here is my humble offering. I have written a few mathematical poetry before this. Here is another one!

........................................................

Straight Curves

straight lines over curves
never get on my nerves!

going off in a tangent
Isn’t that so very pleasant?

functions in parabola
as interesting as hyperbola!

wild algebra always dances
with geometrical nuances!

proving e is equal to m c square
is cakewalk for me, oh, dear!

verifying my love for you-
how do I make a breakthrough?

*****************************

To read more on the topic, do check it at proof positive.

The last stanza really did it for me! Love is unprovable sometimes!
Just wonderful, Gautami!

Love is a wild leap of faith off the power grid of the heart. Sometimes, you just have to trust in the equations.

I have to agree with the two ladies above me, I love the last stanza and sometimes you do just have to trust in life. You did a good job with the "optional assignment" this week.

This one made me smile. I like it. A breakthrough!:)Love-positive!?:)

made me smile
(just about all the maths i know - much more and i'd be lost) :)

I like this - enthusiasm about math followed by confusion about love. A great juxtaposition!

You seem to have much faith in the proof of life and love, I admire that. I liked this poem very much.
Also thank you for reading mine and for you interesting comments.

Ditto! Fun to read, Gautami! Good job with the prompt.

Simple. With love you have to use foolean logic.

yep, that last stanza... :-)

This was very fun. I really liked the way you used rhyme.

I'm stuck calculating "pi". Love it!!

Amalendu said...

I was only in 2-pi-r, could not make it to pi-r-square...

Very nice. I've noticed some changes in curves myself.

Thanks for stopping by. Your visits and comments are always appreciated as are your contributions to PT.

Now there are some rhymes I never would have thought of! If I could have thought of algebra dancing back in high school, it would have made math class much more enjoyable.

Ps. Does this tough with River Yamuna?

Glad I'm not being tested on this or the meaning of these terms!!! This was fun!

The deeper the love,
The stronger the emotion,
The stronger the love,
The deeper the devotion.

Love you

Terrific response to this prompt.
Enjoyed the imaginative rhyming
and seeing words familiar to me.
(This artist also has taught math!)
Nice work, G!

Gautami,
Thanks for stopping over and commenting.
This poem reminds me of my dad, he was constantly putting life in rhyme.
I agree, proving love is more difficult than proving math theorems. Good work!

regina: I liked your biological post too. Too good.

dewyknickers: Yes. I suppose so.

clockworkchris: Thats exactly what I ask! Do I have to prove it?

borut: Thanks.welcome yet again. What took you so long?

floots: I don't believe it. You maths must have been be great! Just the way your poetry is.

twilightspider: Juxtaposition, yes!

beloved dreamer: How can not have faith on life and love? It is very much there. Even when we lose it...

poet with a day job: Thanks!

polona:They do! Structured poetry is all maths!

/t: yes, those add up right.

pepektheassasin: I like you name! Thanks!

puerileuwaite: Bolean or foolean, all the same!

:D

kindness: thanks.

Smooth read, despite what one would expect with the big scientific words and stuff. Nice take.

ecm: Thanks. I liked yours too.

percival: So we do I get those?

crafty green poet: Algebra dances for me!

pat: pi is such a fun number.

amalendu: what about 4/3 pi r cube?

norma: curves become straight in poetry and the vice versa is true too!

desrt rat: well yes. My maths teacher never made those dance but I do for my pupils!

tikkis: Kind of yes! Thanks!

dennis: would you like to be tested?

whitesnake: One has to let go, sometimes! Thanks for this!

gel: Math is easy. I am yet to go to your post. Will do so now!

remimam: My dad taught us to love maths too. I am very grateful to him. Thanks!

Thanks for stopping by ny blog! You do have this one down! Ho hum, the concept of math does evade me! Wonderful presentation, melding left and right!

Peace and giggles!

Thanks for the visit and for sharing your version of proof.
Proving love does indeed appear to be mathematically impossible.
But is is linguistically provable either? Probably not.

ann said...

thank you so much for visiting me... that was very sweet of you and your poetry is absolutely wonderful... you've managed to use so many mathematical terms in such a pleasing way... better than school any day.

Good grief--I LOVE this! Just love it, especially the last bit...

I love the way you integrate maths with love... two apparently diametrically opposite concepts.. I enjoyed reading this.

gautami tripathy said...

rethabile: coming from you that is high praise. Thanks!

dogfaceboy: I seldom rhyme but this worked for me too.

sage: I don't believe that!

writerwoman: It just king of formed...:D

giggles: thanks. I liked what you wrote too. Welcome!

sarala: I agree. Probably not!

ann: I loved maths in schoool, college and now I teach it. I find poetry akin to maths.

novel nymph: Thanks. Do keep dropping by!

natalie: Maths and poetry are not diametrically opposite at all. More in common than we realise...
