you steal the moment

you steal the moment
with that vacuumed silence

aura of which surrounds you

words don't mean a thing
when they topple over each other
vying for attention

I take your cue

hurl mine out of that window

watch them melting into the air

I slump on the floor alongside you
even though that silence hammers

at me. I let it and wait.

I loved the thought behind this piece. As writer's we have a tendency to view words as the most important thing, but this poem proves silence to sometimes be the better choice.

Love the last two stanzas. Sometimes getting over the urge to fill silence with words is hard, but worth it.

I like this. For a poem about silence and waiting, it's very active, almost violent.

Wonderful use of words to decry their abuse.

The image of throwing dangerous words out the window and watching them melt will stick with me and maybe help me not say that thing I know better than to say the next time such an occasion arises.

Another amazing poem. I love the way you take something so simple, like words, and turn it into such a profound work. I love the last stanza. It is very vivid and piercing.

Topple, vying, cue - again a lot of things to learn. Thanks for that. And for this little scene about the biggest thing on earth.

Best wishes

This reminded me of people in conflict whose words just tumble over one another as they blurt things out. Silence is sometimes a blessed relief. A gift.

The idea of a "vacuumed silence" suggests that even thoughts are sucked out of existence! That is absolute silence! Delightful poem!

I love how your poem responds to the prompt and makes it your own in a lilting, almost surreal celebration of love and poetry. Ah, patience!

Sometimes more is said with silence than all the fancy words in the dictionary. Love this Guatami.
