thoughts of that perching scarecrow

hanging from the poles
scarecrow wants the silver shoes
a random wish
to walk on the yellow bricks
holding hands with the giant head

not that he can do much
in his precarious state
tired he falls asleep
chasing a kitten in his dreams
even though he is in love with that witch

when she melts away
he promises himself
that he will take revenge
now the perching is of his own choice
it reminds him of his vow

biding his time, still biding his time

A fascinating reimagining of the Wizard of Oz character. I like it. A lot of good description, surreal.

Love the reference to the Wizard of Oz and the collage effect of the imagery - nicely done

isn't that the way of things: give them will, and they want to use it.
Love the dream kittens.

I love this, can picture this scarecrow hanging there wishing for what he cannot have - just like humans often do! At least he has his dreams.

One of the best Oz characters. Good poem, if slightly surreal! BTW I love the last line...

I like the whole poem, but especially love that last and final line. You took this one to a very different place: the scarecrow in love with the witch! But, then everyone needs someone to love and hopefully someone to love them.

Multi-layered, ref'd, creepifyin' of the scarecrow image - which, compared to real-life bad people - is positively comforting to me.
