ghost of a rose

blemishes you see behind that visage
are not all mine
I rubbed those out of the camera
how I did that I can't say
that picture is a messenger
but you won't understand it
can you enhance that flaw
a characteristic embedded in me?

you are out of that frame
I am in it now, right in front
a ghostly facade enhanced by lights

Wonderful! if you stare at the camera with your right eye and blink several times a face appears behind it!

Vanity, to be and to look as we are not.

Apart from 'touching out' cracks and flaws in old photographs,I'm all for leaving things as they are, both in nature and on film - warts and all.

How true - a photo can longer be classed as an 'honest' image..we are losing much when we rub out imperfections..Jae

So hard to know what is real in photo's anymore. Lessons I thought I wouldn't have to teach my daughters. Very insightful.

Had a second look and read to your poem, didn't notice the camera person the first time because I was fixated by the girl. WOW.

Love how you reveal "truth" through stating what is false about it.

nicely spun...and i like too how you carved out this bit of truth...

That which is plainly seen is less intriguing than that which is partially obscurred, slightly hidden, a little mystery.

Nice piece, Gautami!

There are many out there who could use a little photoshop on their personalities. Well stated.

Wonderfully written and thought provoking. I see in a picture all my flaws and wish the camera would lie..)

How interesting that you point out the camera as the culprit hiding a flaw that the cynic in us all suspects is woven into the soul of this beauty --- a logical, visual reason. Those of us who assume the flaw on a philosophical premise arrive at the same conclusion not having recognized the photographic elements involved. Ghosts indeed!

Most intuitive comment award: DUSTUS, who wrote: "...Love how you reveal "truth" through stating what is false about it."

How true...or false...or, ummmm--I am confused--not really--grin!

I have a feeling God wishes us to look our finest, especially when we are leading people to a happier way of life!

PEACE!

I am struck by the desire to enhance our flaws. How interesting that our perceived flaws might just be what makes us unique and special. That it might be meant to be there.

Lovely!

interesting take on who we are and who we present.

Was it ever true that the camera never lies? Nice take on this one.

(Thanks for stopping by.)

And they say the camera never lies...

How hard it is to see the private rose hiding behind the public mask. Lovely.

Enjoyed the poem, and it is really astonishing how much photo manipulation can be done to hide how people really appear. I very rarely am in photo's as I often am the one taking them.

you are out of that frame...room to think on in your words..
