chants fill the mind rolling down to the heart

Old Couple: photo by Togan Gokbakar
do they wish to rekindle
to get that spark back
to get back to that vow made long ago
life now is such a drone
chants are circling around them like a halo

the blinding sun is also binding
they hide in that cave
they do not hold hold hands
but the fist in the crook of her hand
fills all the space in his heart

he knows he cannot be broken
as long as she is there
he stares at us expressionlessly
challenging us silently
I retreat, let them be

"the music will play on and on for them both,
as long as they have each other"

At my age, I so hope my marriage is not one that needs to be rekindled. A smile a day keeps us together. Very thoughtful writing.

Bet the only music they can hear is a dirge, by the looks on their faces...

Interesting ekfrastic poem, the line about the fist tells all - about the way love changes as the couple has grown old together - sort of hardened but still a deep love.

The odds are that he is going to leave her first. She is probably thinking well at least the house won't smell like an ashtray. I wonder what they thought of the photographer?

Some great lines in this poem, and you have told a very realistic story of the two in the photo. She appears so energized and purposeful, he looks resigned:)

Expressionless is perfect and it is your charming expressions that has brought life to the couple!! ;)

Wonderful how you crept into their space to observe and then silently withdrew

Oh indeed you wrote them a happy ending, I almost did, but the more I studied both their expressions things began to change course!

Amazing how you combined this set of words with the photo! I like how even if they are looking to regain their spark, he knows he can't be broken with her by him.

You've convinced me. You do have the ability to see beyond the obvious.

Sometimes the life-long love transforms to a deep companionship that is so intuitive ... that's what I see in this couple and I think you've touched on that also ... great write!
