shaking it out, I dance to life

painting by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec
I must illuminate the circle of life
not just an incentive for concrete deeds
I cannot wallow in self pity
let me scatter my thoughts on the pavement
I will weave some fantastic tapestry of thoughts
my pounding heart will not stop short at anything
stark emotions do not strain to break free
unbroken spirit do help one hitch
when I can dance to anything
please do not race into time
I don't expect a farewell
finality of ending is not I seek
all are seeking my downfall
I will not let that happen
one who believes in me
will not let me fall

"a huge gathering may prevail
but I will do what is right"

The must" of this poem, it's urgency, is unparalleled and vital. Over the pavement and through the walls if must be, this defines drive nd the urge to be free. I remember that Thoreau said (and many have proven) that walls can not contain a free mind.

I have a feeling that this speaker will dance through life, leaving a mark with each step... there is so much conviction in these few words; so much life.

A story with an intersting reminder. (Actually, it sounds like you & I are both saying the same thing!)

I love "I dance to life" and, especially, your closing lines: "one who believes in me will not let me fall."

Yes, we must dance our way through life, Gautami. Nice poem.

Isn't it curious that so many cannot see what is right? Love, laughter and commitment (plus some dancing) are a great way to go.

It is important to find your own dance moves, but also to find your own rhythms, your own beats. Love this.

I especially liked that. Love how your words seem to tell the tale of the painting.

One should not dance to another's tune, It has to be our own way!! Lovely!!

Pearls of wisdom in your poem. But the one that jumped out the most was "I cannot wallow in self pity". Self pity usually takes us on a downward spiral. Nicely penned.

I found your take on the prompt intriguing. Full of life and dance.
