red sand

I let the grains slide through my fingers
each one reflecting the lights
I can feel the beginning of my planet in those
a story in each particle
I don't know any of those tales
I can feel the heat and the grit-
abrasive on my body
yet I can feel the life
and the character of the land
red sand takes in my life force
giving me back in thousand folds
since inception of the particles
it was pre-ordained that we live here
sharing equally with everyone
however, destruction is our other name
we will disappear into nothing
but the red sand will live here forever
telling our tales to whoever who cares
to listen, to learn, to continue the cycle
" to be destroyed yet again. and again"

garbled garbage-----Read Write poem/Monday Poetry Train

Ride the Monday Poetry train too...

one side of that paper you threw away is totally blank-
your son could have practised his maths problems there.
you could written your rough musical notes
saving on the new ones you always seem to use and throw.

the envelopes can be turned inside out, folded again
and glued, then you can see those are as good as new-
the sturdy ones stay forever, carrying much load
ironing those can be reused for covering books.

do not discard that cotton tunic, faded it might be-
it still has life. it can be gainfully turned into a carry bag
with rop strings and beads from old necklace, where
it comes on its own, to be much admired and treasured.

recycle the water in which you washed the rice into potted plants-
vegetable wastes work as great fertilizer, enriching
the soil. egg shells provide calcium. what you call garbage
is fodder for the earthworms which nurture the earth..

"if only we understood the value of reuse, recycle and reduce"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is not complete. It can't be...there are too many things we throw away. Those can be soo beautifully recycled. Please feel free to add to the list. Someday I might get around adding to this one...
mother's agony--Writers Island
ostensibly calm, churned to its core
vapid vapours need an outlet,
restlessness cannot last forever.
ignoring recalcitrant behaviour
causes more damage. plundering
by its children has to be punished.
that fissure widens spitting anger-
earthquakes, tsunami, cyclones
landslides are but different
manisfestation of that burning
rage. only by punishing herself-
a mother can discipline its progeny.
cawing-----Totally Optional Prompts
crows sit on window ledge
cawing away to glory.
some consider it cacophony
croaking cry, no help.
deemed as ugly birds
raven are much maligned.
clean environment
scavenging. dark eyes
stare, speaking to our soul.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Crows have become scarce here. That is something to be worried. They are not harbinger of death, as some think. Crows keep the environment clean and balance the law of nature by consuming on small rodents etc.

earthy feel----Totally Optional Prompts

burrowing in, burrowing out
following no particular path-
aerating solidness of soil

fertilizing it all the while.

roots are deeply embedded,
nourished too by thoughtful

gestures. lowly creatures

selflessly so environment

friendly, wriggling all over’
loam, are those earthworms.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I wrote it a few minutes back and posting it here un-edited.
taking over-----Writers Island
This time we are to let our imaginations run with the strangers.
walking through the jungle,
the elephant was tired
with a long sigh,
he plopped on the ground
smashing a pumpkin.
orange/yellow muck resembled
massive elephant droppings.
turtle chuckled when lion
stepped over it, wrinkling its nose-
ran to the nearest stream to wash.
crocodile hated the smelly water
fishes sniggered soundlessly,
frogs jumped gleefully upstream,
unaware of the cacophony
elephant fell asleep shortly
dreaming of the landings, it had
come across, while journeying
that massive moving thing
which did not have a head
for that matter, not even a tail.
little did he know, man had
conquered jungles, taking
over the domain hitherto
belonging to the wilderness.
lion was no longer king
elephant did not have the
courage to tell the animals
of all that he saw, letting them
live in their paradise
of ignorance for a little while
bickering over petty things
loving/hating each others
undoing, blissfully oblivious
of the great evil known as
human beings taking over
pachyderm turns over
willing himself to shut out
the horror, lets sleep take over
the terrifying images away-
maybe he had a nightmare.
‘soon to be strangers in their own land’
