at midnight, I hear
a latch fall open
in an attic closet, and then
a profound silence
a latch fall open
in an attic closet, and then
a profound silence
dark stucco of low clouds
clutch the sky
clutch the sky
a branch falls into the street.
a snail travels up a tree-
a long happy journey.
a little water drips with delight
a long happy journey.
a little water drips with delight
from a tap in the park nearby
I look at the changing walls
stories hidden there intrigue me
"reflections of such proportions
are more important than sleep"

Lovely and unexpected!
Lovely poem and could actually feel hear and see the things you talk about!! I too like awake in bed and experience such things. You have made a beautiful verse from it :) One of your many bests I can say!!
A mystery, but not threatening - I like that.
Nice piece. I like the illustration, too.
Interesting use of italics to change an expected emphasis...a moving picture made of words.
*bows to thee*

What a great image "dark stucco of low clouds." I have seen that before in my neck of the woods. Wonderful writing Gautami!
A very intriguing poem.
Beautiful stories hidden in those night time walls. Lovely piece.
Such lovely blending together of words.
Strong writing, as always. Beautifully crafted.
The mysteries of the middle of the night truly capture the poet's imagination! Wonderful.
Another strong, beautiful piece that all sets up the final line. Well done.
those stories hidden there intrigue me as well!
Another amazing offering! This has the great layering affect with so many stories to see and yet the main one moving along. Thanks for sharing this with us!
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. I never seem to make the time to read other blogs and I enjoy your work. This one evokes the senses. Thanks for sharing it.
Stunning!
I wish I thought my midnight ponderings were as worthy of missing out on sleep! LOL :)
Very imaginative and descriptive. It's amazing how many things I notice late at night that I don't during the day.
Gautami,
Took sometime to fathom depth brought out in both the poems which I read now.
Take care
ur imagination is at par with none

Dear gautami: Amazing imagery and atmosphere. How walls can and do talk in the every-changing patterns! Excellent!
The world can take on new dimension as the clock strikes midnight. Loved your description .........
beautiful imagery.
and the part about these observations being more important than sleep...priceless. :)
Clearly a lot of thought went into this poem.
Love your use of imagery, and the sounds of the dripping water from the tap. The silence of the night does enhance the sounds, doesn't it.
Such great imagery with a very strong beginning.
maybe i will listen next time i can't shut my mind off for sleep.
nice magpie
Absolutely, it's what you don't see that intrigues
simply dynamic and eloquent.
Aaah..the intrigue held in those stories of the dark is comparable to NOTHING!! And you are so right, Gautami... Reflections of these proportions are waaaaaaaaaay more important than sleep! :)
~A humble sleepless girl that writes :)
Gautami this is beautiful....
love how you captured that state of being awakened and the thoughts that you think inbetween awake and asleep... the trailings of a snail heard, dynamite!!!
