The Ice Cutters, 1911, Natalia Goncharova |
give us a pair of ice cutters
we will fix and pave a way
we are sure an angel will come from the moon
the snow cover on the trees waves at us
we do not believe in lies
angel cannot snatch away our dreams
we need a clay box to store the ice
it will be used to preserve our simple desires
those have fallen apart by the road side
"that sled carries the weight of our aspirations
while our brother watches detachedly"

We have to work hard to create our own magic..there is great determination in here..
I like the image of the snow covered trees waving.
those cold winter days can leave much to be desired. Thank goodness for the angel from the moon.
I love the presence of angels in this poem....busy ice-cutters, yet ones with dreams.
lovely image of snow covered teees waving with those angels from the moon
Isn't it curious we tend to neglect simple pleasures in pursuit of the impossible. I like the idea of preserving old fashioned values with old fashioned technology.

At the moment , the aspirations appear to be rising nicely on the ice ....Cheers G
an angel from the moon, oh wow! :)
nice images!
sounds refreshing with all that ice...
Love that first stanza, especially.
I like the determination in those opening lines. Ice cutting seems like such hard work, seems like you'd need to be determined to get the job done!
the last lines are really very , very thoughtful and beautiful
Lovely poem! The second stanza is my favorite.
Excuse the belated comment, your comment was in my spam.
I like the angel coming from the moon
Such a grounded poem, but manages to glance upwards and affirm the earthiness.
this is a graceful pen, thoughtful, and vivid ~
An angel coming from the moon is delightful. Merry Christmas.
