in the dreamland, words are wasted

Poet's Sleep, 1989, by Chang Houg Ahn
bring me scrambled eggs
and a big mug of hot chocolate
I am so high on sleep now
there won't be a single peep
until you return
you don't need a stick to prod me with
I am in full form
trust me, words will come
I will fill the pages
it is neither a trial nor a test
let the sleep run its course
before it gets blown out by your arrival

reflected in the window
that table lamp gazes over me
while I absorb the book beneath my head

Absorbing tales while sleeping, I like it!

Who says we aren't learning, experiencing and creating while others think we aren't looking?

What lovely and calm scene you have created with the words, Gautami. Nice.

I'm so glad you mentioned the lamp! I saw it as a symbol of inspiration, but I didn't include it in my poem. My bad! :)

Oh, to be high on sleep! I should be so lucky...

Curiously I find sleep (not necessarily in the study) does help to be more creative and jumbled thoughts then form the words I was after.

Sleep can be a wonderful thing if you can get it.

Sleep is the best source of ideas. Great piece!

The hot chocolate should wake him up . But he may be ruminating while sleeping weaving poems and stories in his sub-conscious mind.

I could feel myself floating within the scene, as one with me.

beautifully written.

This makes me smile. Sleep and then write. I like the sureness that the words will come.

Deep sleep... good food... good company in the morning. Ideal.

I would love to be able to absorb a book I sleep on.

Ahh sometimes even the hot chocolate doesn't work. Sleep overcomes all efforts. Beautiful play of imagery.
