his heart, a mere shell now,
it bleeds slowly to oblivion-
he sheds a single tear
he knows he can handle it
and he will cheer himself up,
and grin for the world
he knows being slack is not an option
and he has to draw a line somewhere-
hence he trims his feelings and smiles
"he can give vent, and undo everything,
but he is held by that invisible strap of decorous behaviour"

"held by that invisible strap of decorous behaviour"
Happy Sunday to you
much love...
AH, that line speaks to me as well. Without that strap, however, it might be a chaotic world!
It is hard to have to grin for the world when the heart is heavy. That single tear is eloquent.
On the right track...

I'm with Sherry, that single tear speaks volumes,

The ending says it all. Love transcends little irritations

Perfect ending to a falling tear.
Interesting new ways of using the key words.
I have often been grateful for restraint--when I use it--and even more in others. I fear we sacrifice the creativity that freedom would bring, but fear chaos even more. Thank you for putting this into words.
"but he is held by that invisible strap of decorous behaviour".. love this!
We all must draw a line somewhere. Lovely!
Amazing use of imagery here. I really love taht bit of how he must draw a line and cuts out emotion.
