Sick Woman, 1665, by Jan Steen |
why do you feel so lethargic
woman, what is wrong with you
you sweet face is so pale
you lie lifeless
I wish to heal you
a doctor in your time of need
yet I see fire in your eyes,
your vision darting everywhere
as if questing for something
that gives me hope
that death cannot take you away
you will fight all the way
this room is your shelter now
but you have a long way to go
I keep hearing you say
'how beautifully leaves grow old
yet I am so cold'
your words will give you warmth
I see it in your spirit
"nurturing the soul is everlasting,
you are doing just fine"

I like this, I think words can be healing just as any medicine
hope you have a great day.
Very nice. It's important to live in the present and to savor each moment.
A kind word and a smile really does make the medicine (happiness)go down to a society that desperately needs it. Nice poem!
I really like the nature of your doctor-suitor/wooer/ healer as he guides her ever so softly! A very easy gentle feel in the reading of this!
Nothing keeps the body stronger than the warmth of a well cared for soul ;-)
You are so good at creating scene and a cadence to your words. Really enjoyed this!
A soul that can never sie, a shining diamond, beautiful , G , thanks
Sometimes, words are a great healing balm ...nicely done!
The power of words, of emotion, of spirit, of the will to live.
We all need to find that strength to go on, and I hope she does.
=)

Beautiful.
Ahh.... nurturing the soul does heal quite a lot of things :)
Lovely!
Feeding the soul IS important- but doing it clean and sober! Thanks-
Comforting words to an exhausted patient! :-) But notice she is smiling. I believe it is because the doctor just told her,
I adore your friendly style,
worship your approving smile,
which by no means you are fit!
Definitely you’ve got it!
She certainly has spirit - I tink she will survive!
"...you are doing just fine"
Hope, even more important than happiness...
Loved the painting too.

Like this stanza, Gautami! While acknowledging the person may be lamenting but one sees a future in them to find solace

Kind words can cure the saddest soul...
Fine write.
Anna :o]
Ah, to save the soul! Well worded.
I see this scene in my mind.
For some reason, I see her in a chemo chair...
Her eyes and mind still alive and vibrant...her body failing...
Gosh.
This gave me goosebumps.
Really wonderful and evocative writing here.
