seeds travelling through time

an unguarded statement does not need to represent
having its consequences in whispers,
confidentiality disappears
innermost garden stands in attention
pockets on your shirt are torn
you fidget with it nervously

blackboard is sans words before I arrive
enigmatically blank, enough to be useful
so I cold step into it at my will-
chalk unrolling in an inevitable procession
what you do not know can hurt you

take away vacant, posed imperviousness
absorb the essence of life’s lessons
growing up is travelling through time
be equipped best way you can

I can sow the seeds, you go nurture those

Hi Gautami, another lesson for us, to use our words to nurture, not destroy.

Have a great weekend my friend and happy reading.

Words are indeed powerful, we need to use them with care.

Whilst I am "absorbing your essence" I would like to point out that growing up really IS the only Time Travelling that we mortals are capable of...
that and crossing the 24 Time Zones of course.

From one teacher to another: thank you!

I just got home from "sowing" Shakespeare "seeds" all week and now am going to relax. Some seeds are harder to plant than others, that's for sure!

Ooh, now THAT is a great way to look at time travel. Nicely done, Gautami!

Me, I'm struggling with this one.

Really enjoyed the image of torn pockets on the shirt. It created a powerful comment on growing up in time.

Thoughtful, challenging write!

Growing up is indeed travelling in time. Now again you need to look over your shoulder just to see how far you've travelled.

Gautami - 'Anonymous' above was me! I pressed the wrong button!

I like your idea of growing up as travelling through time,

Guatami, this is a powerful poem, with such an important message. Yes, what we don't know can hurt us. Sowing the seeds of knowledge through teaching is so important. I think teachers aren't given nearly enough credit for the work they do!

I completely agree - our words our are future.

An important message indeed. Travelling through time do require a set of lifeskills and the experiences gained is dependent on how much we nurture the seed. You've a way to put the ideas across. Nice work.

Gautami,

I'm taking in the wisdom you are passing on in this. The seed is safe here - I will nurture it.

I always love to use the seed as metaphor in my writings and it is great to find another way of using the word as metaphor to achieve profound meaning.

Wisdom sprouting.

I wish you well.

Lovely thought, beautifully and carefully presented. Your poetry always has such charm and intelligence. We are all time travellers, as you say.

Gautami, can you explain me more?
I could not grasp it..

A very interesting poem! I really liked the lines, "my will-
chalk unrolling in an inevitable procession". It brings so many levels to the poem. Wonderful!

This is one of your best, I think! I loved the concrete specifics of it, the torn shirt pocket, the blank blackboard.... A very strong poem.

What a wonderful direction you went with the prompt. I especially loved the last two lines.
