flat gleam of water stared back at me
i had a vision of flash photograph taken on a grey day
glare of my inner monsters drowned themselves out
it was not a dream, certainly not a memory
yet it was luster of truth in some unknown form
That threat was gone now
along came a calm acceptance
with your words told to me long ago
"you and I will live together...
just as long as you need me,
which won't be forever"

How do you manage to write such wonderful ones!
good one Gautami.
Finishing part was the best
"which won't be forever"
Said so succintly yet so much.

Beautiful emerging of irony!
Absolutely beautiful.
This is absolutely gorgeous. I mean, the thoughts and feelings just pour out of these words.
Deep and thoughtful. Excellent.
Something that I can relate.
I love the "vision of flash photograph taken on a grey day" after flat, gleaming water. You set up the images and pour it all forth, from there. Kudos.
I can't think of what to say - it is just great! I love all the emotions gone through; sadly, nothing is forever!
You are an amazing poet:)
marry me. I mean that was chillingly beautiful. Yeh, that's what I meant to say.
the ending just did it all for me!
too good!

Most Mammals are NOT monogamous, that's more of a bird thing, so there is a lot of truth in those words. There is much to be said about pair-bonding, our species has done well by it.
Of course both genders are magnificently designed to cheat and spread the genes around but gosh darnit we love that Romantic angle. Where would we be without the notion of never ending love and living happily ever after?
so perfectly worded! we've all been there too.. promises never kept.
great job
Understanding of the final statement would prevent so much heartache.
Had to read this over and over and over again because it's so good! Love the title as well. Just beautiful.
Just lovely. "Not forever" is, sadly, our reality.
Hi Gautami, sorry to hear that the narrator has inner monsters, I hope they get better soon.
Great little thought provoking rhyme at the end, bringing the reader back down to reality, and shattering his dreams!

Wonderful read, as always...
Very interesting read. You're no amateur!
Beautiful balance between vague and detailed, with a complete story behind the words. I love the wordplay with light and water images, flash and serenity... a really complete work, this.
Lovely!
Nothing is forever - how true! Nice flow between abstract and hindsight emotion.
You always come up with such wonderful pieces...
