I am thankful for the wings
as I circle over the church
don't you remember how I was lost
looking for signs in the concrete jungle
as I trudged alone in the cobbled path
flying is an adventure
the fearful birds give me a wide berth
in my present state I look down,
see myriads of beings fighting for space.
And I fly far away

The short lines "flying is an adventure"/ "And I fly far away"--really nice.
fighting for space, that is the feeling in the concrete jungle
Nice, Gautami. To be able to fly...

I love this one....well done.
A flying elephant - yes, I imagine the birds would give her a wide berth. :) I like too the part about being lost and looking for signs... In fact, you have humanized the elephant very successfully - except that we (or most of us), unlike her, have not yet discovered the wings on our backs. An exceptional poem, really. Thank you.
wow, wings of fire,
love the idea.
i think i would fly far...
Yup I would give them all a wide berth! thanks-

Ah! To be able to fly...what a wonderful dream! Well done!
Very well written. The thought of flying is magnificent indeed
If that elephant asks, I'm with him.
This is a wonderfully imaginative piece.
Thank you for sharing your work on Real Toads.
I bet there's many an elephant who would like to fly away...
Great combination of three prompts in a short verse. You have said a lot in just a few words!! The elephant saw it all and flew away!!
Well done!
Many levels can be read into this poem, Gautami. There is the flying elephant metaphor of course, but it can stand for the many people lost in the concrete jungle. There are those who escape by flying to another part of the world, and there are those who die. As angels, they would circle the church before flying to the eternal home. Truly a lovely poem.
Wow great elephants to have wings this is the second poem I read about flying elephants excellent
